WHAT WE DO MATTERS:

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director, Design to lead our growing creative studio design team. You will collaborate with the Director of Creative Operations in executing the stationery design, print product, and design support strategies for eCommerce and creating design collections from inception of ideas to final design output. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the delivery of on-trend, innovative, and sellable designs that cater to TKWW’s diverse user base. 

In this role, you will lead, inspire, and coach a talented design team including design contractors. You will be responsible for people and the process - creating structure for the design team. 

You will report to the Director of Creative Operations, to make sure products meet TKWW’s strategic goals and high quality design standards. You will work closely with the Merchandising and Director of Creative Operations on the assortment and direction of the collections, making sure the products meet customer needs and anticipate the movements in the market as it relates to design. You also will work closely with our Production leader ensuring timely hand off and in the continuous improvement of the creative product design and development process. 

You will lead design reviews with business stakeholders. We are looking for a leader who has experience in managing the creative product design process. You must demonstrate the initiative and collaborative spirit needed to work with diverse groups and personalities while directing design of new products in a fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for establishing and achieving deadlines, as well as output activities associated with the design process
  • Collaborate with Director of Creative Operations to allocate design resources efficiently in order to meet business objectives
  • Ensure design is in alignment with TKWWs and eCommerce’s  strategic goals and vision.
  • Work tirelessly to position TKWW’s design offerings as the leader in the stationery category making sure designs appeal to the diverse audience of couples who purchase
  • Provide creative leadership working in collaboration with leaders in Product development and merchandising
  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop the design team in all aspects of creative design. 
  • Work with Director of Creative Operations to coordinate and manage design resources (internal and external) in order to deliver designs in accordance with Merchandising and eCommerce needs
  • Lead, coordinate, and manage TKWW’s design standards working closely with product development and sourcing partners to deliver work in an efficient manner with little reworks
  • Coordinate with Merchandising, Director of Creative Operations, and Product Development leadership to establish multi-season and quarterly design and product development calendars and assure timelines and milestones are met
  • Communicate and own design decisions made in design reviews with leadership and cross functional stakeholders
  • Collaborate regularly with Director of Creative Operations to communicate the progress of design creation during each design cycle 
  • Ensure that SKU count and design styles are met for each SKU plan in accordance with the product development calendar and communicating with Merchandising on status updates
  • Work closely with Director of Creative Operations to make sure design is appropriately staffed to deliver on all product SKUs and eCommerce projects
  • Interpret merchandising direction and develop and drive the quarterly design collections across a range of stationery and paper categories. You will respond with fresh and innovative ideas, communicating these ideas to our in-house and freelance designers
  • Collaborate, inspire, and empower designers to pursue innovative and original designs 
  • Continuously provide guidance, actionable feedback, in a professional and motivating manner
  • Establish a strong design process that fosters innovation 
  • Mentor and lead our creative staff, cultivating an engaging atmosphere leading to development of best in class designs

SUCCESSFUL [JOB TITLE] CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • 10 - 12 years of experience working in design management
  • At least 3-5 years of team leadership, managerial experience
  • Software Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design
  • Experience in stationery or textile design preferred
  • Awareness of product development from conceptualization to finished design for print
  • Excellent visual and verbal presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively with senior management
  • Ability to manage key relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Is forward thinking and has a key understanding of and pulse of current trends in art, fashion, design research to keep ahead of consumer needs and expectations

ABOUT THE CONTRACT ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

As we continue to grow our designs across multiple stationery categories, we are looking for Contract Graphic Designers to design stationery for wedding, baby, and holiday on a project basis. 

You are passionate about good design and show strong design skills in typography, layout, and illustration. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • You will be presented a creative brief with clear deliverables and deadline for each design project by our in-house Design Team 
  • You will independently create design concepts and submit for feedback
  • After feedback and approval by our Art Director, you will submit design files by deadline
  • Expected to finish 3 - 5 design projects per month

SUCCESSFUL CONTRACT DESIGNER CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • Expertise in working in Adobe Illustrator and advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Stationery and/or paper goods design experience
  • A portfolio that includes your stationery and/or paper goods design work
  • A portfolio that demonstrates fluency with print and digital design and shows strong understanding of design fundamentals (typography, composition, color, layout, hierarchy ect.). Your portfolio will be assessed on how your creative thinking translates into beautiful and fresh printed design solutions.
  • At least 4+ years experience designing for print
  • Ability to translate design briefs into concepts within 2 weeks and revisions within 3 days.
  • Strong typography skills with an excellent sense for pairing fonts together in design layout 
  • Strong commitment to timelines, accuracy and professionalism
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once in fast-paced environment with competing deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines
  • Wedding stationery design experience a plus
  • Illustration experience a plus

MERCHANDISING INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support Merchandising initiatives across multiple ecommerce platforms for Wedding Registry, Paper among others emerging businesses
  • Run point on competitive analysis for Wedding Registry, Paper and Gifts & Favors business lines
  • Assist in analyzing new business opportunities within emerging categories, brands and marketplaces
  • Manage brand go-get lists based on merchandising priorities
  • Assist in developing new reporting initiatives that will be the foundation for internal and external financial readouts
