ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

We are a close-knit and collaborative legal team that enjoys working on fun and challenging projects together.  We are looking for an organized, process-oriented, efficient and energetic attorney to join our global legal team and help us build our contracts and legal operations functions. Following a return to office, this position will be based out of our Chevy Chase, MD headquarters, in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. 

The Contracts Counsel (you!) will be the global legal team’s lead on commercial contracts, including customer, supplier and partner contracts.  You will help us to build and transform the legal operations functions so that we can operate smarter, faster and better.  This position will report to our SVP, Deputy General Counsel and will be charged with supervising, mentoring and/or assisting other legal team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review, draft, negotiate and finalize a variety of supplier, partner and customer agreements, including those for advertising, media, SaaS and other software and technology.  
  • Manage the structure and execution of our contracts management system, including the contracts approval process and contract management system.  Work with other departments to continuously improve our processes.
  • Supervise, mentor and/or support junior attorney and paraprofessional staff in contracts and legal operations, serving as an escalation and consultation point for significant issues.
  • Assist with the growth of our legal operations function, including contract management, task management, and other areas.  Work with enterprise team on deploying enterprise software that either directly supports or touches on the legal team
  • Provide legal advice to stakeholders regarding applicable laws, regulations and policies and general legal risk. 
  • Oversee, organize and improve the company’s form agreements and policies. 
  • Assist with the resolution of customer disputes. 

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • JD from an accredited US law school (or international equivalent) and member of the bar in any US jurisdiction with the ability to practice in-house in Maryland. 
  • 8+ years of legal experience post-qualification, which includes 4+ years of experience in an in-house contracts role, including demonstrable experience with the majority of Responsibilities listed above.  Experience in a legal operations role would be a significant plus.   Experience with a marketplace, ecommerce or advertising business is a plus. 
  • Strong and effective document drafting and negotiating skills with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A growth-oriented mindset that shows curiosity and an eagerness to learn. 
  • Strong collaboration skills both within and across teams.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-minded with an ability to manage multiple projects on aggressive deadlines. 
  • Fluency in a foreign language, particularly Spanish, is a plus.
  • Experience with negotiating real estate leases is a plus, as is experience with litigation and dispute management.

We are a close-knit legal team that enjoys working on fun and challenging projects together.  We are looking for an experienced, business-savvy, and collaborative Employment Counsel to join our global legal team to lead our employment legal function in the US. This position is in person (eventually) in our Chevy Chase, MD headquarters. The Employment Counsel (you!) will manage and handle all labor and employment-related matters for our US employee population, as well as provide employment legal services and support for our international employees in Ireland, UK, India, and China.  You will work closely with our People Operations team, HRBPs, and Employee Experience team and you will report to our Deputy General Counsel. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Handle, advise, and provide legal support on a broad range of employment issues, including HR practices, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, background checks, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, consultants and contractors, sales commission and bonus plans, and non-compete and non-solicitation agreements
  • Identify and manage legal aspects of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and provide legal counseling for federal and state laws on discrimination and harassment
  • Review, draft and negotiate employment-related policies, programs, and agreements that balance legal risk with business impact
  • Manage internal investigations and employment-related litigation and settlements
  • Create legal training programs and provide training for managers and employees on various employment law issues
  • Identify, understand, research, manage, and explain new and changing employment laws impacting our business

SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT COUNSEL CANDIDATES HAVE:

  • 7+ years of experience as a labor and employment attorney, at both a law firm and in-house
  • Extensive experience with a wide variety of labor and employment matters under federal, state, and local employment laws, including demonstrable experience with the majority of Responsibilities listed above
  • Experience with US and international data privacy and security issues in the employment context preferred
  • Experience with international employment laws, particularly EU, UK, India, and China, a plus!

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP:

We are excited to welcome a new group of interns in the Summer of 2022! Beginning in June, this 9-week paid internship will be fully remote and will include roles from all of our departments (sales, tech & product, marketing, legal, finance & accounting, and HR). While each internship will include different projects, all of our interns will have an opportunity to network together, participate in fireside chats with senior leaders, and participate in programming designed especially for you. Part time and full time roles are available.

LEGAL INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Working with our attorneys and paralegals on domestic and international legal matters such as corporate law, data privacy, employment law, compliance, and disputes

  • Reviewing and helping to negotiate client, partner and vendor agreements and developing and maintaining legal agreement templates

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with compiling, reviewing, and supervising the payroll for around 100 employees spread in 6 LATAM countries 
  • Manage the time and labor function in our HR system 
  • Participate actively in the design and implementation of an International Payroll System and Global HRIS
  • Collaborate directly with the HR team, following established workflows to process employee changes, including but not limited to benefit, salary, bonus and commission payouts or adjustments 
  • Act as the primary payroll support representative, assisting employees with payroll inquiries; escalating or redirecting if needed
  • Assist on HR Benefits Administration for countries within the scope as well as evaluate new benefits to be included according to local practices and business needs

  • Competency in maintaining confidential information

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP:

We are excited to welcome a new group of interns in the Summer of 2022! Beginning in June, this 9-week paid internship will be fully remote and will include roles from all of our departments (sales, tech & product, marketing, legal, finance & accounting, and HR). While each internship will include different projects, all of our interns will have an opportunity to network together, participate in fireside chats with senior leaders, and participate in programming designed especially for you. Part time and full time roles are available.

The smart and fast-paced Tech Corporate Recruiting Intern (you!) will identify amazing talent for our tech teams.  You will partner with our Technical Corporate Recruiters to identify engineers, product managers/designers, data analysts, data scientists, and data engineers for our tech and Product organization.  You will be joining a power-house Talent Acquisition team that hires top talent who makes The Knot Worldwide a thriving business and an awesome place to work.

  • Collaborate with Recruiting and Sourcing to find top talent
  • Source relevant profiles through multiple active and passive channels
  • Compose, monitor and maintain job postings on various job portals
  • Input and update candidate information in our  Applicant Tracking System
