The Knot Guest Messaging Terms

Last Updated: October 6, 2026

These Guest Messaging Terms govern your use of The Knot's Guest Email Updates and Guest Text Updates features (together, the "Guest Messaging Services," each of which is part of the Services). They supplement, and are incorporated into, The Knot Worldwide Inc. Terms of Use at https://www.theknotww.com/terms-of-use (the "Terms of Use"), which are incorporated here by reference. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms of Use. If these Guest Messaging Terms conflict with the Terms of Use, these Guest Messaging Terms control as to the Guest Messaging Services. By using a Guest Messaging Service, you agree to these Guest Messaging Terms.

1. Eligibility

1.1. The Guest Messaging Services are available only to Members with a registered account who are at least 18 years old and reside in the United States, for personal, non-commercial use in connection with their wedding or related events. Vendors may not use the Guest Messaging Services.

1.2. Messages may be sent only to U.S. email addresses and U.S. mobile numbers and not to landlines, VoIP, or toll-free numbers.

2. You Are the Sender

2.1. Any email or text message (SMS or MMS) you compose, select, schedule, or direct to be sent using the Guest Messaging Services, including any template, link, image, or attachment, is a "Guest Message." You, and not TKWW, are the sender of every Guest Message. You alone decide whether to send it, who receives it, what it says, and when it is sent. TKWW does not select recipients, does not write Guest Messages other than optional templates you choose and may edit, and sends Guest Messages only at your direction. In that regard, TKWW operates as a common carrier. Guest Messages are your Submitted Content under the Terms of Use.

2.2. Guest Messages are transmitted by third-party email providers, messaging platforms, aggregators, and wireless carriers ("Messaging Providers") from email addresses, domains, and U.S. long code numbers owned or controlled by TKWW or its Messaging Providers. Each Guest Message identifies you as the sender. Our use of these addresses and numbers does not make TKWW the author or sender of any Guest Message.  You have no right, title, or interest in any such email address, domain, or telephone number, and we may change them at any time.

2.3. Consistent with Section 3 of the Terms of Use, TKWW acts solely as a neutral provider of the technical means to send Guest Messages and is not a party to your communications with your Guests.

3. Guest Contact Information and Consent

3.1. Each time you add a person (a "Guest") or their email address, mobile number, or related information such as name or household ("Guest Contact Information"), or send a Guest Message, you represent and warrant that:

(a) the Guest personally provided their Guest Contact Information to you (or someone acting on your behalf) to receive information about your wedding or related events;

(b) the Guest agreed to receive Guest Messages of the type you send at that Guest Contact Information, including text messages sent through an automated platform;

(c) the Guest Contact Information is accurate, current, and belongs to that Guest;

(d) the Guest has not asked you, us, or anyone else to stop sending them messages about your event; and

(e) you have the right to share the Guest Contact Information with TKWW and its Messaging Providers for the purposes described in Section 7, and you have given the Guest any notice required by law for that sharing.

3.2. You will not add Guest Contact Information that you purchased, rented, scraped, or obtained from anyone other than the Guest, or that you obtained from any TKWW Service except as the Services expressly permit.

3.3. You must keep Guest Contact Information current and promptly remove or correct it if you learn it is wrong, no longer belongs to the Guest, or the Guest no longer wants Guest Messages.

3.4. You will not add Guest Contact Information for anyone under the age of 18.

3.5. TKWW relies on your representations in this Section 3 and does not independently verify Guest consent.

4. Content Rules

4.1. You may send only informational, non-commercial updates about your wedding and related events, such as schedules, locations, travel and lodging logistics, RSVP reminders, attire, weather or timing changes, and thank-you messages. You may not send any advertising or marketing content whatsoever.

4.2. In addition to Section 10 of the Terms of Use and our Acceptable Content Policy, Guest Messages may not: (a) advertise or promote any commercial product, service, or business, including any Vendor; (b) solicit purchases, donations, investments, or payments, other than a link to your wedding website, registry, or cash fund hosted on The Knot; (c) contain political, advocacy, or religious solicitation; (d) contain content relating to sex, hate, illegal drugs (including cannabis), firearms, tobacco, or vaping, or promote alcohol beyond factual event information; (e) contain phishing, malware, or deceptive or shortened links; (f) misrepresent who the sender is or use misleading header, subject, or "from" information; (g) harass, threaten, defame, or disclose another person's private information; or (h) violate any federal, state, local, or other applicable law, rule, or regulations, or the requirements of any Messaging Provider or wireless carrier.

4.3. We use automated and manual tools to screen Guest Messages. We may, but are not obligated to, review, delay, block, or refuse to send any Guest Message, or limit, suspend, or terminate your access, if we believe a Guest Message violates these Guest Messaging Terms or the Terms of Use or creates legal, regulatory, deliverability, or reputational risk. We will not edit Guest Messages. Our screening is undertaken voluntarily and in good faith as described in Section 8 of the Terms of Use and does not make TKWW the author of any Guest Message.

5. Guest Opt-Outs

5.1 A Guest may opt out of Guest texts at any time by replying STOP (or END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, or OPT OUT). A Guest who replies STOP may receive one confirmation text. A Guest may reply HELP for help. A Guest may opt out of any Guest Messages, including Guest emails, by telling you.

5.2. When a Guest opts out through a mechanism we provide, we will stop sending Guest Messages to that address or number from any account using the same sending number or address, and we may notify you. You may not re-add or resume messaging an opted-out Guest, and we may prevent you from doing so. The Guest may opt back in only through a step we make available to the Guest directly.

5.3. If a Guest asks you, by any reasonable means, to stop sending them messages, you must remove or mark that Guest as opted out on the guest list within 2 business days.

5.4. We may retain opt-out records and suppression lists as needed to honor opt-outs and comply with law, even after you delete a Guest or close your account.

6. Volume, Timing, Delivery, and Fees

6.1. You agree to send Guest Messages at a reasonable frequency. We may set and change limits on the number of Guests, Guest Messages, or sends in our sole discretion and for any reason.

6.2. The Guest Messaging Services must not be relied on for emergency or urgent safety communications.

6.3. We do not control, and are not responsible for, Messaging Providers, including filtering, blocking, delay, or non-delivery. Consistent with Sections 11 and 14 of the Terms of Use, we do not guarantee delivery or the accuracy of any delivery or engagement information we display. You agree to comply with Messaging Provider and carrier requirements we communicate to you, and we may block, delay, or modify Guest Messages or the Guest Messaging Services to comply with them.

6.4. Message and data rates may apply to you and your Guests. Message frequency varies. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. The Guest Messaging Services are currently free. We may introduce fees under Section 12 of the Terms of Use and will notify you before you incur any fee.

7. Our Use of Guest Information

7.1. We collect, use, and share Guest Contact Information and Guest Messages as described in our Privacy Policy, including to:

(a) provide the Guest Messaging Services, transmit Guest Messages, honor opt-outs, prevent abuse, keep records, and comply with law;

(b) analyze, improve, and develop our Services;

(c) develop and train our AI Features and other technologies; and

(d) send Guests our own marketing and promotional communications by email and, with the Guest's prior express written consent obtained directly from the Guest, by text message.

7.2. Guests may opt out of our marketing communications as described in those communications and in our Privacy Policy.

8. Your Responsibility; Indemnity

You are solely responsible for your Guest Messages, your Guest Contact Information, and your compliance with laws applicable to your messages. Without limiting Section 16 of the Terms of Use, you will indemnify, defend, and hold harmless TKWW and the Limited Parties from any claim, fine, or penalty, including attorneys' fees, arising out of (a) any Guest Message; (b) any Guest Contact Information you provide, including any claim that a Guest did not consent or revoked consent; (c) your failure to honor an opt-out; or (d) your breach of these Guest Messaging Terms.

9. Suspension and Termination

In addition to our rights under Sections 11 and 17 of the Terms of Use, we may modify, suspend, or terminate either Guest Messaging Service, or your access to it, at any time and without notice, including if we receive Guest complaints, opt-out or complaint rates exceed our thresholds, a Messaging Provider or carrier requires it, or we believe your use creates legal or regulatory risk.

10. Additional Terms for Guest Email Updates

Guest emails will display your name(s), e.g., "Alex & Sam via The Knot"] as the "from" name. Messaging is one directional and guests will not be able to respond to you. Each Guest email will identify you as the sender and state that it was sent using The Knot, and you may not remove these elements. Guest emails include an unsubscribe link. If they unsubscribe, they will stop receiving messages about your wedding. If a Guest asks you to stop sending them emails, you must handle that request as described in Section 5.3.

11. Additional Terms for Guest Text Updates

The first Guest text to each Guest will identify you as the sender, state that it was sent using The Knot, and explain how to opt out and get help; every Guest text will identify you as the sender. We may add these elements automatically, and you may not remove them.

12. Changes; Contact

We may update these Guest Messaging Terms as described in Section 1 of the Terms of Use, and your continued use after changes take effect means you accept them. Questions may be sent to  help@theknot.com.
