The Knot Worldwide Inc. California Privacy

This section supplements our Privacy Policy with additional information for California residents about our information collection and use practices as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (“CCPA”). In this section, the terms “personal information” and “sensitive personal information” have the meaning set forth in the CCPA.

Detailed information about the categories of personal information that we collect from California residents generally, the purposes for which we use the information, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclose the information for business purposes is provided in the Privacy Policy in “The Information We Collect and the Ways We Use it” and the “How We Disclose Your Information” sections.

Notice of Right to Opt Out of Sales of Personal Information and Sharing of Personal Information for Cross-Context Behavioral Advertising. As explained in the “How We Disclose Your Information” section of our Privacy Policy, we sometimes disclose information to unaffiliated third parties to provide offers that we think may be of value to you. This disclosure of information may be considered a “sale” under the CCPA.  We also provide personal information to third-party advertising and related analytics providers for targeted advertising purposes, so that we can provide you with more relevant and tailored ads regarding our services, or use analytics partners to assist us in analyzing use of our services and our user/customer base. The disclosure of your personal information to these third parties to assist us in providing these services may be considered the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes.  As explained in the “How We Disclose Your Information” section, the personal information we disclose for these purposes includes:

  • Demographic and statistical information
  • User-generated content
  • Device information and identifiers
  • Connection and usage data
  • General geolocation information (only at the general level, we do not “sell” or process for targeted advertising precise geolocation)
  • Social media information

Please note that we do not disclose personal information that may be considered “sensitive” or “special category” information under applicable law for these purposes without your consent.
If you would like to opt out of our online disclosure such as through cookie, mobile SDK, and pixel technology of your personal information for purposes that could be considered “sales” for those third parties' own commercial purposes, or “sharing” for purposes of targeted advertising, please click here. In our mobile app, please visit the “Your Privacy Choices” option within the mobile app settings menu.  You must make this choice on each site/app on each browser/device you use to access the Services.  You must also renew this choice if you clear your cookies or your browser is set to do that. You can also submit a request to opt out of our offline disclosures of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes and to the disclosure of such information to our marketing and business partners by using the form available at the link above. You are entitled to designate an authorized agent to submit such requests on your behalf. Please note that we do not knowingly sell the personal information of minors under 16 years of age without legally-required affirmative authorization.
Please note that if you have a legally-recognized browser-based opt out preference signal turned on via your device browser, we recognize such preference in accordance with applicable law.
Retention.  For information about our retention practices concerning personal information, please see the “Retention of Your Information” section below.
Right to Limit.  The CCPA provides California consumers with the right to limit the ways in which we process their “sensitive personal information.”  Please note that we do not process “sensitive personal information” for purposes that are subject to the right to limit.  If you voluntarily provide us with any information that may be considered “sensitive” under the CCPA (e.g., the religion associated with your wedding ceremony or the gender of your significant other), this information will be processed solely to provide the related services to you (e.g., connecting you with relevant vendors and venues for your event).
Incentive Programs.  The Services may offer opportunities to receive certain services or benefits such as discounts or free services, which may require the provision of Personal Information. Such opportunities could be considered a financial incentive under the CCPA (each, an “Incentive Program”).  When you participate in an Incentive Program, you agree to the terms of that Incentive Program, and may revoke your participation depending on the Incentive Program (e.g., by opting out of emails). To the extent we can determine the value of your information, we consider the value of providing you with a more personalized experience as well as the expenses we incur in providing Incentive Programs that are reasonably related to the costs associated with offering the Incentives.
California “Shine the Light” DisclosureThe California “Shine the Light” law gives residents of California the right under certain circumstances to request, on a yearly basis, information about our disclosure of certain categories of “personal information” (as defined in the Shine the Light law) to third parties for their own “direct marketing purposes” (as defined in the Shine the Light law), or in the alternative, that we maintain a policy of providing a cost-free means for consumers to opt out of any such disclosure. You can exercise your rights under the California “Shine the Light” law – which gives you the right to opt out of the sharing of certain categories of personal information (as defined in the Shine the Light law) with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes – by emailing us at privacyrequest@theknotww.com with the subject line “Shine the Light Request”.  If you want to opt out of activities that are considered “sales” or “sharing” under the California CCPA, please follow the instructions above.
Notice Concerning Do Not Track.  Do Not Track (“DNT”) is a privacy preference that users can set in certain web browsers. We are committed to providing you with meaningful choices about the information collected on our website for online advertising and analytics purposes, and that is why we provide the variety of opt-out mechanisms listed above. However, we do not currently recognize or respond to browser-initiated DNT signals. Learn more about Do Not TrackPlease note that Do Not Track is a different privacy mechanism than the user “preference signal” referenced above, which is a browser-based control that indicates whether you would like to opt out of processing of your information for certain purposes, such as the “sale” of your information or the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
