The Knot Partners With Here Media for Same-Sex Wedding Survey

New survey will look into wedding spending as well as same-sex couples’ take on existing and new wedding traditions

May 21, 2013 (LOS ANGELES) The Knot (www.theknot.com), the nation’s number-one wedding resource, has partnered with Here Media Inc. (www.heremedia.com), the world’s leading gay media company, to create a new co-branded same-sex wedding survey that will examine how same-sex couples approach wedding planning. The first-ever survey of its kind will also look at how same-sex couples are integrating existing traditions into their wedding ceremonies, as well as reformulating and creating new traditions to fit their nuptials. Plus, it will offer insight into spending on wedding-related events and how spend and planning habits compare to their straight counterparts.

“At The Knot, we eat, sleep, dream and breathe weddings. We could not be more excited that 12 states, Washington D.C. (and counting!) are finally allowing same-sex couples the right to marry, declare their love for one another and plan those weddings,” said Rebecca Dolgin, The Knot editor in chief. “That’s why we’re delighted to partner with Here Media to gain insight into this group’s wedding planning. It’s a historic time for our country as more and more states pass this legislation; we’re excited to be at the forefront by being the first to provide this level of detail and information on how same-sex couples plan and how their weddings compare to those of straight couples. We’re even launching our first-ever Special Interest Publication on same-sex weddings in June too.”

Here Media and its iconic brands, including OUT, The Advocate, Here TV, Gay.com,SheWired.com, and Gay.net, has collaborated with The Knot editors to develop and deploy survey questions to readers visiting both companies’ various web properties. The survey focuses on same-sex wedding information, new trends and how traditions are changing as more and more states pass legislation allowing civil unions and same-sex marriage. The Knot and Here Media teams will gather the survey results and make them available to both media and consumers interested in the trends of same-sex weddings.

“Gay weddings are no longer a fantasy; they’re fast becoming the norm,” said Stephen Murray, Here Media’s SVP Marketing & Brand Strategy. “Our 2013 Here Media/MRI survey reports that nearly 20% of our audience is planning to get married in the next one to three years. That’s a huge increase from even a year ago, and one which opens up an array of new opportunities for wedding, bridal, and travel advertisers. We’re thrilled to partner with The Knot to give these advertisers insight into the latest buying trends and behaviors to help them tap into this lucrative market.”
